PROVIDENCE—Wingate Residences on the East Side will host tai chi classes for seniors at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays in September. Dates include Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27. These classes will be led by Eastern fitness instructor Bob McManus, who has more than 14 years of experience teaching tai chi. Seniors are welcome to attend and learn more about this form of ancient Chinese meditative exercise. These classes are free and open to the public, but space is limited. Professor Gary Hylander to present at Wingate Residences on the East Side (Sept. 3)

PROVIDENCE—Wingate Residents on the East Side will welcome musician Jack Craig for a rousing musical program and class on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. Enjoy a performance featuring songs from the era of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, and Leonard Bernstein. ‘America, An Artful Journey’ at Wingate Residences on the East Side (Sept. 21)

PROVIDENCE—Wingate Residences on the East Side will host ‘America, An Artful Journey’ on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. A representative from Art For Your Mind will discuss paintings from colonial times through the 21st century as they tell America’s story. Wingate book club to discuss ‘BUtterfield 8’ (Sept. 26)

PROVIDENCE—The book club at Wingate Residences on the East Side will discuss ‘BUtterfield 8’ by John O’Hara on Monday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. Based on an unsolved murder of a young woman in the 1930s, O’Hara’s fictional narrative explores her life before the incident. An unapologetic social commentary, BUtterfield 8 examines the role of class in the lives of people in the post-Great Depression era.

The Wingate book club launched eight years ago and remains one of the community’s most popular programs; since its inception, the club has read nearly 100 books.
